Lochner [head of the Associated Press] recalled that when the orgy
was at its height, a cavalcade of cars drove into sight. 'It was
the Propaganda Minister himself ... "Fellow students, German
men and women," he cried as he stepped before the microphone
for all Germany to hear him, "the age of extreme Jewish intellectualism
has now ended." He praised the students of their hard work
in "clearing up the debris of the past". For him, the
'healthy instincts of the Volk' would now determine the future of
literature and art in Germany. Over 20,000 works were consumed by
the flames that night.
